Well me. I’ve been to both and uploaded my photos to flickr. The Bahamas were taken 5 years ago, December 2003 and Cannes was this year July 2008 at the advertising awards show. Enjoy. ![]()

Hold on to your molars! The Audi A5 microsite that won gold at the Loeries 2008 also won Site of the Day at http://www.theFWA.com. This is a truly remarkable site as it has a new (usually Flash) site daily that’s worthy of consideration. If you’re a web designer you have to know about this site for inspirational (ripping off) purposes.
Lesser known but equally interesting is http://www.fwatheater.com. This has movie clips like Youtube, but with much better quality and faster download times. The site doesn’t feature silly videos though and has a decent collection of showreels, animated clips, advertising and trailers. Check it out.
Tweet! Tweet!
I’m on twitter! So now the whole world can know immediately how I’m living my life. 30 years from now I’ll compile the one-liners into a memoir called “140 characters”. chuckle.
I’m torgnyhylen on twitter so look me up and get a sneak preview at the eventual book.
Ffffound is my favourite website
http://www.ffffound.com is a site were users upload interesting pictures, sometimes photos but mostly illustrations, that appeal to an aesthetic. These aren’t jokey pics, so don’t expect to see kittens falling off tvs. The best bit is that when you click an image you go to a page with similar images. Hours can disappear from your life by just following the images. Its awesome.
I’ve made a screensaver by batch downloading a whole bunch of ffffound images and then point my slideshow screensaver to that folder. I’ve got about 5,000 images and the best screensaver I’ve ever had. Coolest thing is I got 3 screens at work and each of them displays different images. Bliss.
This is damn funny.
Jimmy Kimmel is an American talk show host. He’s been making playful digs at Matt Damon for a long time. Sarah Silverman is a female comedienne who is also Jimmy Kimmel’s girlfriend. Matt and Sarah conspired and got their revenge on Jimmy during his live talk show by airing the below clip. It’s now been made famous by Youtube.
I’m fucking Matt Damon – youtube link removed.
Not to be outdone, Jimmy Kimmel replies with a video of his own. His has a bigger budget.
I’m fucking Ben Affleck – youtube link removed.

Truth in Advertising
If you’re in advertising… you’ll understand.
Reggie Watts
This guy is unbelievably cool. I was there at Design Indaba Cape Town 2007 when he did his thing. We were all blown away. The audience wasn’t expecting anything like what he did, thanks in part to a bogus biography in the conference notebook. He was the last speaker of Design Indaba 2007 and he started his talk as if he was some deep thinking creative with angst and big words. Then he started doing his “normal thing”. Watch.

Tales of Mere Existence
Lev Yilmaz is a genius. Not only has he cottoned onto the cheapest form of “animation” possible (filming himself drawing on the opposite side of a back-lit sheaf of paper that “hides” his drawing hand sufficiently for it to appear that his simple line drawings are animating into being – just watch the youtube clip to understand) he also is a genius in his droll monotone delivery of a human insight. Be it about procrastination or getting a girlfriend; there’s truth (and sadness) and humour in what he has to say. Its only a matter of time until he’s either ripped off or gets paid some serious dosh for a very cool technique to deliver dry commentary on the human condition.

Dave Gorman’s Googlewhack

I’ve just watched Dave Gorman’s Googlewhack Adventure on DVD and what a blast! I don’t know how I’ve managed to muddle through my life and not know who this guy is. He’s a complete Nutter! With a captial “N” mind you. But insanity is often crossed with genius and he has a lot of that too. Somehow he manages to go through life attracting the absolutely ridiculous and has the enviable ability of being able to tell the tale on stage in front of lots of people with a slide show to gales of laughter. The DVD is a 2 hour one man show that is absolutely captivating, hysterical, unbelievable and strangely comforting. He sincerely asks that no part of his act be discussed out side of his act, so as not to ruin the plot – and I obey: just find it and watch it.
You can buy the DVD from amazon here. He has a whole bunch of other DVDs that look interesting too… especially the one that has him looking for other people (54 of them) that share his name.
Incidentally, if you don’t know what a Googlewhack is, here is a definition:
A Googlewhack is a Google search query consisting of two words, that returns a single result. Source
This has inspired me to become a googlewhack somehow. I need to find a way of being able to produce a googlewhack result. I’m not entirely sure I know how I intend to pull this off, but I’ll set myself a deadline of February 29. Let’s see.
Characteristics of Information
Mike Wesch (Information R/evolution) cleverly compares the characteristics of both digital and traditional information. Makes the point that early Information Architecture used traditional models of categorization and how these are now outmoded. And that the onus to “harness, create, critique, organize and understand” is on all of us. Very interesting stuff.
